Landed in Sicily
We arrived in Catania and travelled to Agrigento via Taormina, Nicosia and Enna.
The first thing you notice when arriving in Catania is the crazy traffic. Road signs are just for decoration! Once you have adapted to the road mentality, you notice Mount Etna, and there is no way you can take this for granted. This volcano has a beautiful slope and is just unbelievably huge and impressive.
Taormina is a pretty little town built into a mountain, like so many other towns in Sicily. The beaches vary greatly, some are stony, others have black sand from Mount Etna. The water is typically mediterranean, clear blue and pleasantly cooling.
From Taormina we made our way inland, where it was very dry and hot. The landscape is hilly and looks mostly golden, from the many wheat fields.
In Agrigento we saw the Valley of temples, made up of almost a straight line of ancient Greek temples which have been partly restored.
