From Calgary we drove to Banff and Lake Louise, and then on to Jasper.
My favourite glacier was the Athabasca glacier, because it was truly impressive. The Athabasca glacier
is powered by the Columbian icefield, which feeds water into the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, as well
as the Arctic Ocean.
Under the weight of a moving glacier water underneath the glacier is compressed so that it becomes far
denser. This changes the colour of the water.
Also rocks underneath the moving ice are ground into fine powder, called Rock Flour. This causes the muddy
look of water coming from the bottom of a glacier.
Needless to point out, one shouldn't drink water from glacial lakes because they contain lots of Rock Flour,
which acts as a natural laxative!
